About Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama is a famous Japanese artist and a writer. Though she was born in Japan, she permanently settled in the United States back in the year 1957. She selected New York as her home and from this vary city she produced a number of paintings and art works which were influenced by abstract expressionism. Most of Kusama’s art work has a touch of conceptual art. Her works also give a glimpse of surrealism, feminism and minimalism. Most of her content is psychological and autobiographical.

Kusama has also made a name for herself in the field of poetry and novel writing. Kusama has also written various wonderful books. The names of some of these books are The Hustler’s Grotto of Christopher Street, Angels in Cape Cod and Double Suicide at Sakuragazuka. As a book maniac you can easily purchase some of these books from your local book store. As far as her paintings and sculptures are concerned then most of her popular works have been displayed in reputable museums like The Whitney Museum, Museum of Modern Art and The Hirshhorn Museum

Back in the year 2006 she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Women’s Caucus for Art. One of her works was sold at $5.1 million by Christie’s New York in the year 2008. In a nutshell the name of Yayoi Kusama will always be remembered in the world of art due to her massive contributions to the field.  Kusama is still living and has reached an age of 80. I cannot say whether she will be producing more art work or not, however what I can safely confirm is the fact that whatever she has produced so far will be remembered forever.

David Zwirner is a famous art gallery in the city of New York and this is the very place where different art works of Kusama are being displayed. An event displaying Kusama works has already started from 2nd of November and will likely to continue until December, 2016. During the exhibition around 66 different paintings have been displayed. The majority of these paintings belong to Kusama’s Eternal Soul Series.

All four walls of the exhibition area are covered by the Eternal Soul Series. The series has been exhibited in different galleries and arenas since the year 2000. The paintings depict the unique flair which Kusama offers to her audience. The paintings are a unique combination of macroscopic and microscopic universes.

Apart from the paintings which create a vibrant atmosphere in the exhibition hall, the stainless steel sculptures developed by Kusama are also very attractive. The sculptures are a mixed combination of stainless steel, individual flowers and urethane paint. The horizontal orientation and exaggerated features make the statues extremely attractive and mind blowing.

The overall environment in the exhibition is excellent and usually people from respectable families come here. As an art lover you will surely enjoy the paintings. The best part about this exhibition lies in the fact that in each painting you observe or notice different gems of artwork. Kusama is no doubt an artist whose art work stands out for its wonderful creativity and brilliance.
